Fisher is a leading member of the 'Northern Plains Indian School' of painting in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Fisher was born on Gordon's Indian Reserve in 1927. The rolling hills and views of Gordon's Reserve were to provide inspiration for many of his paintings in later years.
Sanford Fisher is one of the most prolific and popular of Prairie Artists, Native or White. His art is truly a "people's art" and it is no mistake that a group of teachers and workers from Saskatchewan visiting the People's Republic of China in 1973, took one of his paintings as a gift.
