Robert Walter Millard (1947-2014) was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba of Metis background, was adopted by an aunt and raised and educated in Fort Qu' Appelle, Saskatchewan.
After losing partial use of one hand through an industrial accident, Bob attended Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, Manitoba as part of a job retraining and therapy program. There, he was introduced to the world of art and the use of pastels. With a half-day session on how to do portraits, Bob discovered his talent.
